Edwardian Black Shoe Laces by Hooton's Bazaar
New old stock Edwardian shoe laces. Wide loose weave rayon with metal aglets and tassel ends. 26 inches long and 1.5 inch wide.
There was a fashion for wide 'ribbon' laces in the 1910s and also for lacing up your shoes the wrong way so the bow was at the bottom of the eyelets.
Very good unused condition
Vintage shoe sizes can vary a lot, both from modern and contemporary sizes, depending where and when they were made and design details such as the shape of the toe and height of the heel.
There are also differences in modern comparison charts depending on which country you live in and the style of shoe.
Please check the measurements before you order, or ask me about fitting. Don't compare your modern trainers to vintage leather shoes, they don't match.
Width fittings.
A vintage B fitting of 2.9 or 2 and 7/8ths of an inch was considered normal but is a bit narrow by today's standards.
AAA is very narrow and C wide but there is a lot of variation, some A fit are 2.9”, others 2.8” so please look at my measurements, I measure very accurately.
A man interviewed for a Which Report from 1966 admitted the grades were inexact for the sake of flattery.
All pairs are wearable unless otherwise stated, but I wouldn't recommend wearing some of the antique pairs. I check that the soles and uppers are well glued, that any synthetic soles are flexible and there is a decent amount of heel tip left.
If they have been re-heeled and soled I will tell you. Any faults will be noted. I usually polish/clean them where needed.
If you want any further information please message me through the conversations tab. I'm happy to send more photos if I've missed something.
I offer a no quibble return policy. You pay the return postage.
Some other dealers have copied and pasted this explanation, which I don't mind, but buyers be aware they may not measure as well as I do.

FAQ
Will they fit me?
Converting vintage shoes to modern size charts is a minefield. This is why I give sizes in inches. Compare the pair you are thinking of buying to a pair of a similar style you already own which fit well.
Refer to our size chart for a rule of thumb conversion.
Packaging
I use as much recycled packaging as possible with a minimum amount of new to ensure safe delivery.
Which shippers do you use?
I use Royal Mail, domestically and a combination of Royal Mail and your national carrier abroad. So for example USPS in the United States.
